By downloading, accessing, or using 4x4buddy you agree to these Terms of Use and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. About These Terms
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of 4x4Buddy, including our mobile apps, websites, APIs, backend services, maps, offline map packs, convoy features, account features, track sync, GPX import/export, POIs, satellite or premium features, and related services (together, the "Service").
By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
The Service is provided by 4x4Buddy.com ("4x4Buddy", "we", "us", or "our"). Contact: info@4x4buddy.com.
2. Eligibility and Accounts
You may use 4x4Buddy only if you can legally enter into these Terms and are allowed to use the Service under applicable law.
Some features work without an account. Account sign-in may be required for cloud track sync, premium-gated features, satellite layers, convoy services, exports, deletion requests, or future community features. You are responsible for keeping your account secure and for activity under your account.
You must provide accurate account information and may not impersonate another person, organization, vehicle club, authority, emergency service, or 4x4Buddy representative.
3. Outdoor, Offroad, and Navigation Safety
4x4Buddy is an aid for trip planning, navigation, convoy awareness, and recording. It is not a substitute for your own judgment, local laws, official signs, current land-access rules, weather checks, vehicle preparation, recovery equipment, or emergency communications.
Map data, routes, trails, POIs, satellite imagery, user content, convoy locations, telemetry, and road-access information may be incomplete, delayed, inaccurate, outdated, unavailable, or unsuitable for your vehicle or conditions. You are responsible for verifying access, legality, closures, terrain, weather, safety, and vehicle suitability before and during any trip.
Do not rely on 4x4Buddy as your only navigation or safety tool. Carry appropriate backup navigation, communications, maps, recovery gear, supplies, and emergency plans for your route.
4. Legal and Responsible Land Use
You must use 4x4Buddy lawfully and responsibly. You agree not to use the Service to:
- trespass or encourage trespassing;
- drive on closed, restricted, private, protected, or environmentally sensitive land without permission;
- damage trails, roads, vegetation, wildlife, property, gates, fences, signage, or cultural sites;
- evade law enforcement, land managers, rescue services, or road/trail closures;
- organize unsafe, illegal, harassing, or destructive driving;
- misrepresent a route, trail, campsite, POI, or land-access status.
You are solely responsible for understanding and following local laws and rules, including traffic laws, offroad access rules, conservation restrictions, seasonal closures, fire restrictions, camping rules, and club/event requirements.
5. Acceptable Use
You must not misuse the Service. This includes:
- attempting to access accounts, data, convoys, APIs, servers, or systems without permission;
- scraping, bulk downloading, harvesting, reselling, mirroring, reverse engineering, or bypassing technical restrictions except where legally permitted;
- interfering with, overloading, probing, scanning, or disrupting the Service;
- using automation, bots, fake accounts, or scripts to spam, manipulate, or abuse the Service;
- uploading malware, exploit code, or harmful files;
- using the Service to track people without lawful permission;
- using the Service for emergency dispatch, fleet management, commercial surveillance, or other high-risk use unless we have agreed in writing;
- removing attribution or misusing third-party map, imagery, or data provider content.
6. Community Names, Convoys, and Conduct
If you create or join convoys, choose a call sign, name a group, publish a POI, share a track, or use future community features, you must keep names and content respectful and lawful.
You may not use usernames, call signs, convoy names, group names, POI names, track titles, descriptions, comments, photos, or other content that:
- is threatening, harassing, hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, exploitative, or graphically disturbing;
- targets people based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, caste, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, or other protected characteristics;
- impersonates another person, club, company, public authority, emergency service, or 4x4Buddy;
- contains personal data of others without permission;
- promotes illegal activity, unsafe driving, trail damage, trespass, or violence;
- is spam, unsolicited advertising, commercial promotion, phishing, or misleading solicitation;
- is fake, copied without permission, defamatory, off-topic, or intentionally inaccurate.
Unless we expressly allow it, you may not use 4x4Buddy convoys, group names, profiles, POIs, track listings, or messaging surfaces for advertising, affiliate links, lead generation, paid promotions, marketplace listings, political campaigning, or repeated promotional posting.
7. User Content
"User Content" means content you create, upload, import, sync, share, or make available through the Service, including tracks, routes, GPX files, POIs, photos, names, descriptions, convoy metadata, call signs, vehicle details, telemetry-linked recordings, comments, and feedback.
You keep ownership of your User Content. You grant 4x4Buddy a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, process, reproduce, display, transmit, adapt, and use your User Content as needed to operate, secure, improve, and provide the Service, including sync, sharing, convoy, export, moderation, support, backup, and abuse-prevention functions.
If you choose to share User Content publicly or with a convoy, club, link recipient, or other users, you grant us permission to make that User Content available to the audience you selected. You are responsible for ensuring you have all rights and permissions needed for any content you upload or share.
We may remove, restrict, label, or refuse to display User Content that we believe violates these Terms, infringes rights, creates legal or safety risk, harms users, or degrades the Service.
8. Privacy and Location Data
4x4Buddy may process precise location, route, track, convoy, vehicle, sensor, telemetry, account, and device data depending on the features you use. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and how you can request export or deletion.
Be careful when sharing tracks, convoys, POIs, screenshots, or exported files. They may reveal sensitive locations such as homes, camps, private trails, favorite routes, hunting/fishing areas, vehicle storage locations, or travel patterns.
You must not use 4x4Buddy to monitor, stalk, or track another person without lawful permission.
9. Third-Party Services and Data
The Service may use or link to third-party services, maps, satellite imagery, basemaps, app stores, sign-in providers, map-data providers, device platforms, Bluetooth/OBD devices, vehicle adapters, payment providers, or websites.
Third-party services and data may be subject to their own terms, licenses, privacy policies, pricing, usage limits, attribution requirements, and availability restrictions. We are not responsible for third-party content, accuracy, availability, performance, or changes.
10. OBD, Vehicle, Sensor, and Telemetry Features
4x4Buddy may display or record data from your device sensors or supported vehicle/OBD accessories. This data may be inaccurate, delayed, incomplete, or affected by device placement, calibration, Bluetooth connection, adapter quality, vehicle support, terrain, and environmental conditions.
Do not use 4x4Buddy telemetry, pitch/roll, gauges, heading, speed, or other sensor data as your only basis for driving decisions. You are responsible for safe operation of your vehicle at all times.
11. Subscriptions, Premium Features, and App Stores
Some features may be free, account-gated, premium-gated, trial-based, subscription-based, or subject to future paid plans. Feature availability may differ by platform, region, account state, app version, or provider availability.
If you buy through Apple App Store, Google Play, or another third-party store, payments, renewals, cancellations, refunds, taxes, and billing support may be handled by that store under its terms. We may add, remove, modify, or limit features as the Service evolves, subject to applicable law and any required notice.
12. Intellectual Property
4x4Buddy, the app, software, design, logos, trademarks, content, and technology are owned by 4x4Buddy or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not transfer ownership of the Service to you.
We grant you a limited, personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service as permitted by these Terms.
You may not copy, modify, sell, lease, sublicense, distribute, publicly display, or create derivative works from the Service or its content except as allowed by these Terms, built-in export/sharing features, or applicable law.
13. Feedback
If you send ideas, suggestions, bug reports, feature requests, or other feedback, you allow us to use them without restriction or compensation. You should not send confidential information through feedback channels unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.
14. Copyright and Rights Complaints
If you believe content in the Service infringes your copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights, contact us at info@4x4buddy.com with enough information to identify the content and your claim. We may remove or restrict content while reviewing the issue.
15. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend, limit, or terminate access to the Service or remove content if we believe you violated these Terms, created risk or legal exposure, infringed rights, abused the Service, harmed users, or used the Service in a way that undermines safety or reliability.
You may stop using the Service at any time. Account deletion, data export, and data deletion options are described in the app and Privacy Policy.
16. Service Changes and Availability
We may update, change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service, including beta features, map layers, offline packs, convoy services, cloud sync, premium-gated features, APIs, or third-party integrations. We aim to build a reliable offline-first product, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or permanently available service.
17. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that the Service, maps, routes, POIs, convoy information, telemetry, satellite imagery, third-party data, or user content will be accurate, complete, current, secure, available, legal to use for a specific route, or suitable for your vehicle, skill level, or conditions.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so some exclusions may not apply to you.
18. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, 4x4Buddy and its owners, employees, contractors, affiliates, suppliers, and licensors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost goodwill, personal injury, property damage, land-access violations, rescue costs, fines, or trip disruption arising from or related to your use of or inability to use the Service.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, such as liability for intentional misconduct or other non-excludable rights under applicable consumer law.
19. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold 4x4Buddy harmless from claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses arising from your User Content, your misuse of the Service, your violation of these Terms, your violation of law or land-access rules, or your infringement of another person's rights.
20. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we will provide notice as required by law, such as through the app, website, email, or account notice. Your continued use of the Service after updated Terms take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
21. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Sweden, except for conflict-of-law rules. Courts or dispute bodies located in Stockholm, Sweden will have jurisdiction unless applicable consumer law gives you rights in another forum.
