What is a convoy and how do I start one?
A convoy is live group driving. Create or join one by code, QR, or deep link, then see members' live dots — with heading and call signs — on the map. Activate or deactivate anytime; a badge shows when you're live.
Do the maps work with no signal?
Yes — 4x4buddy is offline-first. Download offline map packs before you leave, and navigation, recording and drawing all work fully offline.
What are Tribes?
Tribes are your private groups for sharing. Create or join a Tribe and share tracks (and shared POIs) with members. Tribe-shared tracks are free to view.
What are Destinations?
Destinations are a curated catalog of trails and spots with ready-made tracks and POIs. Browse them as map pins and download for off-grid use.
Can I import and export GPX routes?
Yes. Import GPX in-app (multi-track files split automatically) and export recorded tracks as GPX 1.1 via the share sheet. The free tier imports a single track per file; Premium unlocks multi-track import.
Is the app free? What does Premium add?
The app is free and fully usable signed-out. Premium unlocks the high-res satellite layer and multi-track GPX import. Billing is via the App Store / Google Play.
Why is the satellite layer premium?
Satellite imagery is a paid, high-resolution map layer, so it sits behind Premium. The standard vector and outdoor basemaps are free.
Do I need an account? What happens to my data?
No account required — everything works locally. Optional Google or Apple sign-in adds cloud track sync and satellite. You can export or permanently delete all your data anytime.
Does it work in Sweden and the Nordics?
Yes. The vector basemap covers Sweden and the Nordics, auto-picking the right country map as you pan. Download region packs for offline use; broader Europe coverage is expanding.
Can I see live vehicle data (OBD)?
Yes. Pair a Bluetooth ELM327-class OBD adapter (Veepeak, Vgate iCar Pro, and similar) for live engine data on configurable gauges, plus tilt / artificial-horizon and compass.
Can I record and share my drive?
Record tracks with GPS and sensor data, then get a post-drive recap and a shareable image card. You can also draw route lines and mark areas on the map.
Which phones are supported?
Android and iPhone, released together from the same version.
